Activities:
Dr Boehle
organised and moderated the Symposium ‘On Religions and
International Institutions’ at the
2004 Parliament of the World’s Religions in Barcelona.
The Symposium had the following aims:
The aim of the Symposium is to increase
understanding and cooperation between religious communities/organisations and
international institutions.
It wants
to raise awareness in the mainstream of academic work and public policy
for the
related issues and to contribute to improved relations between international
institutions, religious communities/organisations, inter-religious
organisations and indigenous communities.
It wants
to strengthen the engagement with the UN System as a partner for inter-cultural
and inter-religious encounters and projects.
The Symposium was organised with the support
of the Department of Theology and Religion, University of Birmingham, UK and co-sponsored by: the Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha (Birmingham, UK), the
Temple of Understanding (New York), and the Guerrand-Hermes
Foundation for Peace.

In
his capacity as Coordinator of the UNESCO Chair in Interfaith Studies,
University of Birmingham, and as Research Fellow in Globalisation,
Religion and Politics, Dr Boehle also
participated actively in the following international developments:
· He was a member of
the working committee that planned the
Conference on Interfaith Cooperation for Peace
at United Nations Headquarters on 22 June 2005
and he presented a
paper on ‘Religions, Civil Society and the UN System’ at
the conference.
The Tripartite Forum on Interfaith Cooperation for Peace
is an outcome of this conference.
· He organised a workshop panel on ‘The
UN System and the World(s) of Religions and Cultures’ at the
2007 Annual Meeting of
the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS).
· He was an
Advisor to the Civil Society Task Force that planned the Interactive Hearing of
the
High-level
Dialogue on Interreligious Understanding and Cooperation for Peace,
held by the United Nations General
Assembly on 4 and 5 October 2007.
